Crossville to Consider Indoor Recreational Facility

The City of Crossville will discuss the possibility of building an indoor recreational facility.

Councilman Scot Shanks presented the option during the Tuesday work session. He said the council has talked about the idea over the last several years.

“We had a city council retreat last month and the top item that came out of that as far as any discussion from the general fund was interest in building an indoor recreation facility,” Shanks said. “So this does not cover all the different times this has been brought up. I know it has been brought up other times because I know it was brought up I think in 2016 or maybe even 2017 before I was on.”

Shanks said the council can look to the Manchester Indoor Recreational Facility for inspiration after recently touring the building.

“Here is… to me, the most unbelievable statistic out of the whole thing,” Shanks said. “10,500 people live  in Manchester, they have 5,500 people with a membership.”

City Manager Greg Wood said the council had reached out to the county to participate in the facility.

“There was some great interest in that committee at the time to partner with the city to do this, but the problem was they felt like the presentation was just so quick,” Wood said. “And they didn’t have enough time really to look at it. I know that they have come back to us since then and asked the city to partner in the Expo Center. So there might still be some interest still in the county.”

Crossville City Council will discuss the building during the July 9 meeting.
