Crossville Shooting Sports Park Hosts Grand-Opening

The new Crossville Shooting Sports Park hosted its grand opening Thursday.

Park President Kenneth Carey said the new shooting range will provide a variety of opportunities for residents of the Upper Cumberland and beyond.

“We’ve actually built a facility where you can shoot rifles, shotguns, pistols, archery, everything here,” Carey said. “We’ve got five trap skeet fields, we have an Olympic bunker field… two sporting clay courses, five-bay pistol range and a 200-yard rifle range as well as 3D archery.”

The shooting parks’s board of directors and Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) officials gathered at the new facility for a ribbon-cutting.

Carey said during a presentation that nearly four years of hard work and dedication led to the creation of the park.

“This is the result of a team effort. There’s never an ‘I’ in a ‘team’,” Carey said. “We’re here today through a lot of different aspects, a big part through our partner with the TWRA. This is an idea that was hatched from three guys sitting on a tailgate of a truck at a youth shooting competition several years ago that got us to where we are now.”

TWRA officials will host various programs and courses at the facility as part of a grant agreement. Carey said the programs will be beneficial to area citizens.

“It helps the youth here but it helps the adults as well,” Carey said. “Anybody that wants to come out and shoot for fun  or if they’re on a team for competition, they’ve got a place that they can practice pretty much anything they can shoot.”

The Crossville Shooting Sports Park is located at 772 Albert Frye Road off exit 322 of Interstate 40. The park is open to the public Thursday through Friday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m, and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m.
