Crossville Parks and Recreation plans to update Garrison Park.
Tammie French directs the Crossville Parks and Recreation.
“In 2014, the city of Crossville adopted a new recreation master plan,” French said. “In that plan, they recommended the repurposing of Garrison Park to address some safety concerns and it was definitely out of ADA compliance.”
Several public hearings discussed the renovation during 2016. The project started earlier this year.
The project focuses on updating the facilities already present and adding new features, such as an ADA compliant playground and a splash pad.
Crossville will pay for the updates with a state grant, French said.
“The city applied for and received the state of Tennessee Local Parks and Recreation Fund Grant for $500,000,” French said. “It is a fifty-fifty match grant where the state will provide 500,000 dollars and the city matches with $500,000.”
Crossville hopes to begin on the construction in spring, French said.
“Demolition has already started, the city is doing that in-house,” French said. “We are currently accepting bids on the project, and we expect construction to begin later this spring.”
The update includes a playground, a picnic area, and a splash pad, French said. The restrooms and basketball court will also be renovated as part of the project.
