Crossville is evaluating potential locations for its future indoor recreation facility.
City Manager Greg Wood and City Engineer Tim Begley have looked at at least four different properties. Wood said that since the search has gone public, more people are reaching out about land that could be used.
“I was called by another property on Miller and Lantana, another one over here,” Wood said. “So if we can’t get one property, there’s plenty of other people waiting in line.”
Wood said the appraisal on the 24 acre Webb Avenue Property has not come in yet. The city is looking at a minimum of 10 acres for the facility, however Begley said there is an ability to change the configuration of the facility to make it fit with whichever property the city chooses to purchase.
“We had about an hour and a half conversation the other day with the engineer and the architect and they can change the configuration of the building,” Begley said. “To match the property, we haven’t gotten to that point yet to say we need to change that configuration. Everything would fit if the building was shaped just a little bit different. So I think we’re going to come up with some alternatives.”
The city currently needs about four acres for the facility and the outdoor aquatics component, with 7.5 to 8 acres needed for parking. The city is considering the need of 350 parking spaces to meet the indoor recreation facility’s needs.
