Crossville Mayor Says Village In Closure Will Save Over $100,000 In City Resources

Crossville will save approximately $112,000 by shutting down the Village Inn.

The Crossville City Council met in a special called meeting Tuesday where Mayor RJ Crawford shared data about emergency calls to the location. Crawford said the city responded to over 1,000 calls since 2019 which was doubled compared to other similar housing developments.

“I bring that up to say we need to continue what we can moving forward to get the Village Inn shut down,” Crawford said. “I know the conversation that’s been had is obviously people have to move out. What do we do with that?”

City Attorney Randy York outlined the city’s obligations with current tenants during the meeting. The amended contract states that the seller will be responsible to relieve the property of occupants before the final sale.

York said after 15 days of the last tenant, utilities will be turned off and another special called meeting will be held for final approval to close the transaction. The council approved the amended contract that also increases the purchase price from $450,000 to $465,000. $445,000 will be due on closing since the city already issued a $20,000 deposit.

Crawford said the city has worked with local housing low-income housing organizations to assist the current tenants.
