Crossville Approves New Vehicles For Police

The City of Crossville has approved spending nearly $88,000 for new vehicles and equipment.

Captain Brian Eckelson said the purchases include a $29,791 Chevrolet Slverado, two Chevrolet Impalas for $20,441 each, and some in-car camera systems for $17,264.

“We had budgeted $177,000 for vehicles and equipment,” Eckelson said. That leaves us enough to purchase one more fully equipped patrol car if need be. The two Impalas are going to be admin vehicles.”

Eckelson said the department will be taking their investigators out of unmarked Ford Explorers and putting them in other unmarked vehicles within the fleet.

“It’s not really good for what the detectives do when they are out trying to prowl around and not be notices,” Eckelson said.

Four of the Explorers will be striped and equipped for new officers. The Chevrolet Silverado will be assigned to an investigator.

The city council will consider another vehicle purchase for new police chief Jessie Brooks when they meet Thursday.

The vehicle under consideration is another $29,791 Chevrolet Silverado.
