Crossville Amends Holiday Lake Water Level Policy

The Crossville City Council approved an amendment to the Holiday Lake water level procedures Tuesday.

Councilman Scott Shanks proposed a water level drop once every three-years. He said the change will help locals in the long run.

“And I just felt like we should go ahead and put it on an every three-year schedule like Tansi is on. This puts us doing it the year before Tansi and that way people can have an idea of what is coming up,” Shanks said. “And know it’s the year, rather than having to wait until city council brings it up and decides if we are dropping it this year or not so people can sort of plan.”

Shanks said the amendment also keeps the water level decrease between October 1 and December 31.

“The change from the original. The original was October first through February, the end of February,” Shanks said. “And discussing with people, there is not any work that is going to be done January, February anyways.”

City Manager Greg Woods said the lake will drain the same level each time.

“Just for clarification, when we open it completely up, because of the structure of the dam, it will not completely drain the lake,” Woods said. “It will only drain it as far as the bottom of the piping which is right around four feet.”

The three-year cycle will begin this October.
