CRMC To Purchase Equipment For Whitney Surgery Center

After delaying the purchase for several months, Cookeville Regional Medical Center set to take the next steps to replace GI equipment at the Surgery Center on Whitney Avenue.

CFO Tommye Rena Wells said the hospital had originally gotten this request in July with a bid of $1.2 million. She said they have now pushed out the purchase as far as they can.

“Our equipment is failing,” Wells said. “And in order to continue to do the volume of GI procedures we need at our ambulatory surgery center we will need to purchase the scopes and video processors for that area.”

Wells said if the equipment is not purchased, it would result in closing down a room at the center.

“The ambulatory surgery center as far as GI procedures are concerned, had a $2.6 million profit last year,” Wells said. “So this investment of $819,000 will have a good ROI.”

Wells said since the bid was originally presented, they have been able to cut costs by about 30 percent. She said the new bid for equipment replacement of $819,648 is about $40,000 under budget
