Crab Orchard Elementary Nears Completion

Renovation projects at Crab Orchard Elementary School are nearing completion.

Architect Kim Chamberlin said the weather previously delayed the project.

“Again work is progressing very well at Crab Orchard. [I] couldn’t be happier with what the contractor has been able to get done on this last little bit,” Chamberlin said. “He is about 60 days from being complete. That is back to his original timeframe, original schedule even with all the weather we had trying to get this thing started.”

Chamberlin said the contractor will complete multiple projects in the coming weeks.

“Gym floor is down, looking very nice. I think bleachers were supposed to start this week,” Chamberlin said. “So I’ll get out there and take a look at that. So again no real issues to speak of.”

Chamberlin said the renovations will need additional funding for internet service.

“We have had one item that was brought to my attention that we did not have included in the work was to get the internet fiber moved from the old building to the new building,” Chamberlin said. “So we need to get that moved and that is a $6,825 cost.”

The Cumberland County School System approved the cost to the contingency fund Thursday.
