COVID Funding For Overton Ambulance Service Addition Approved

Overton County Commission approved the designs on its Ambulance Service Building Monday night.

The project had been on hold until COVID funding for the facility could be approved. County Executive Ben Danner said this will add more training space, sleeping quarters and clear the garage for vehicle usage.

“We could add on later if we needed to down the road,” Danner said. “Which we were looking toward the future and I think this addition will get us into the next 10 years if the county grows and when, after that. There will be room to add on then too.”

Danner said the property will have enough room to be able to add a helipad.

The expansion will also assist keeping workers safe in the COVID era.

“This is COVID related because of the ambulance service spreading employees out.” Danner said. “So if they’re on a run with someone that has COVID, they don’t all have to be in the same area.”

Danner said he hopes to have bids ready to present and recommend to the commission by January. That would allow work to start in the spring. Danner said that the price estimate is roughly $420,000 but will be dependent on the price per square foot.

Danner said that putting the project on pause until spending COVID was approved was not a total loss. Danner said that they were able to get the land  topographically surveyed during that time.
