UCAAAD Offers SNAP Assistance

Upper Cumberland Area Agency on Aging and Disability (UCAAAD) is now offering application assistance with SNAP, formerly known as the Food Stamp Program, for adults 60 and over or individuals with a disability to provide eligible individuals with monthly benefits to buy food. Applicants 60 and over or an individual with a disability can now call the UCAAAD SNAP Benefits Coordinator at (931) 432-4111 for free and confidential application assistance.

Cookeville Strong and the Tennessee Tech University Food Pantry have partnered with Putnam County Parks and Recreation to bring a WEEKLY Grocery Giveaway to our community!
The food will be available to the public starting at 10 AM. You MUST Enter from the NORTH BOUND LANE OF WASHINGTON AVE.
Food boxes will vary weekly and contain a variety of PERISHABLE food items, and COLD milk. Those who wish to receive food arrive with an empty trunk and bring insulated bags if they have them available or plan to travel. The boxes are first come first serve and limited to one per family. The food is from the Middle Tennessee nonprofit Break-Thru Nashville by way of a USDA Grant called Farmers to Families. The grant aims to provide much needed COVID relief to communities and small farms across America.

Blood Assurance is hoping tocollect at least 6,500 units of blood, platelets, and plasma during this time. 

Between March 15 and March 25Blood Assurance will give away a series of prizes like  $10 Starbucks gift card to every donor thatvisits a mobile drive or center.

 Between March 26 and March 29, Blood Assurancewill give away a $50 Academy Sports + Outdoors gift card to one donor everyhour at all Blood Assurance drives and centers. The event will culminate in agrand prize giveaway of fifteen $500 gift cards to Top Golf. Fifteen $500 TopGolf gift cards will be given away to donors who give between March 30 andApril 5. For donors to enter they only need to donate once. Fifteen randomdonors will be chosen to win the grand prize.

Blood Assurance is maintaining procedures put in place due toCOVID-19 including extra cleaning, social distancing, and a mask requirement.

 To be eligible to donate blood, youmust be at least 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent), weigh 110pounds or more and be in good health. Donors are asked to drink plenty offluids — avoiding caffeine — and eat a meal that is rich in iron prior todonating.

As patients arrive at the parking lot, they will be provided with additional information regarding clinic opening processes and next steps. Clinic doors typically open at 6 a.m. This process will repeat throughout the clinic days.

Free dental, vision and medical services are provided on a first-come, first-serve basis. Due to time constraints, be prepared to choose between DENTAL and VISION services. Medical services are offered to every patient attending the clinic.
Patients will be required to wear a face covering and must undergo a COVID-19 screening before entering the clinic. All services are free and open to the public. No ID required.
In some situations, such as inclement weather, volunteer cancellations, or other circumstances outside of RAM’s control, the parking lot may open earlier or a smaller number of patients served. Join Sue Duncan for this two-part class. The first half of the class, you will learn how to dye our Easter eggs naturally by using colors made by nature. You will learn how plants can make beautiful colors for our eggs. In the second half of the class, you will learn about the pysanka. In the second half of the class, you will learn about the pysanka technique. It is an Eastern European style of decorating Easter eggs with wax to create beautiful designs. Sue Duncan is a retired park ranger from Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. She has over 30 years in historical interpretation and education. Everyone will take home 6 eggs and kits to make your own pysanka eggs at home. Children need to be accompanied by an adult and must be at least 7 years old. Make sure to bring your lunch and wear clothes that can be stained. This class is $25 per person and all supplies are provided for this fun class. Participants should be prepared to practice social distancing of at least 6 feet and are encouraged to wear face mask. A limited supply of hand sanitizer will be available. Bill Maddox will be teaching a hands-on class on the art of carving bowls. This is an intermediate class and will continue the development of your wood working skills. Bill will be teaching you how to safely design and carve a bowl from a block of wood. Each participant will be given their own carving kit, which includes one sloyd knife, one hook knife, one detail knife, one leather strop, one rouge, tool roll, and local green wood. Everyone will need to sign a liability form before they can participate. Make sure to bring your lunch. This class will be outside so please dress for the weather. This class is $60 and limited to 9 people. Participants should be prepared to practice social distancing of at least 6 feet and are encouraged to wear face mask. Rugby – Historic Rugby First Day Of Spring Opening Weekend – Presented By Historic Rugby March 20th guided trails will start at 10:00am and go all day. Go to the Historic Rugby Visitor Center for the guided trail hikes. This will be the first day ofHistoric Rugby’s 2021 season and visitors can visit the printing works andshops.  Food vendors will also be onsite. The first Irish Road Bowling matchwill take place in front of the former Harrow Road Cafe at 6 PM EST.  Everyone is welcome to attend.
