Thursday is Election Day and local election administrators said they hope for a good turnout.
Overton County Administrator of Elections Craig Story said election day can be tough to predict. Story said each election is different.
“It just depends on the election we are dealing with and what’s on the ballot,” Story said. “You know, some of them turn out a little bit lighter and things are a little bit smoother, and others you got a lot of first time voters and people that have questions and the phone rings a little more often on those elections.”
Jackson County Administrator of Elections Drew McMillan said he anticipates over 1,200 voters to show up. McMillan said those voters looking to get in and out quick?
“I would say when polls open,” McMillan said. “First thing, nine o’clock. People are usually out the door ready to go. People get excited about voting as they should and let their voices be heard.”
Counties have been preparing for the election since March in order to make voting a good experience for county residents. White County Administrator of Elections Sherry Andersen said she is feeling optimistic about election day.
“We’re hopeful,” Anderson said. “The last I looked at the weather was good so that’s always a good sign. We’ve had a good turnout for early voting. Quite a bit more than we had come out in march for early voting.”
Anderson said she has been preparing since March. Story said he and his staff are ready for election day.
“We try and be prepared,” Story said. “That is kind of the motto for the boy scouts and us both. We just want to make sure we are ready for whatever comes up.”
Good weather and big turnouts is the verdict from election commissions all across the Upper Cumberland. McMillan said being prepared and knowing where to be on election day helps things go smooth. If you have any questions in regards to voting call your county elections commission they will be able to help you be prepared for election day.
