Cookeville City Council approved emergency repairs to get the Cane Creek Electric Substation back online Thursday night.
Electric Department Director Carl Haney said two transformers need repairs. The Cane Creek facility serves two areas of the community and provides backup for another.
“It is currently offline until repairs can be made,” Haney said. “Right now, about 60 percent of the city’s load is being fed out of South Cookeville without any backups.”
Substation Service Company will complete the $62,000 in repairs. Haney said the units will take about two weeks to repair.
Haney said each substation has been built to handle more load than is needed, in the case of failure. Haney said it would simply take some time to reroute electrical loads if needed.
In other business, the council voted 3-2 to appoint Lauren Metts to the Cookeville Planning Commission. Metts will serve a five-year term. Elwood Ervin and Nancy Bohannon were reappointed to a new term on the Board of Zoning Appeals. That term will be three years in length.
The final reading to rezone land along for Bunker Hill Road for a new subdivision passed unanimously. A rezoning on land along Neal Street to a different commercial zoning passed Thursday.
The council also passed some housekeeping changes to the Hotel Motel Tax ordinance to clarify definitions in the ordinance.
