A Cookeville-based Highway Patrol Trooper shot during a traffic stop Friday evening near Interstate 40 mile marker 288.
The interstate down to one lane in the eastbound direction as of 9:15pm as the investigation continues into the shooting. The Highway Patrol said it is searching for two suspects in a white Kia Forte. The car’s license plate reads Q9SC4JR. It appears to be a temporary tag.
The suspects are two black males with facial tattoos. In-car video shows the car stopped right at the base of the Highway 111 exit.
The officer was taken to Cookeville Regional and later flown to Nashville. It does not appear to be a life-threatening injury.
The incident happened around 8:40pm. Anyone with information, asked to call 911.
