City of Cookeville will consider a sewer agreement with a local developer to upgrade sewer lines on Spring Street at Cedar Avenue.
Water Quality Control Director Barry Turner said with the current lines, there is not enough capacity for a planned development at the site.
“This sewer was installed in 1935, we actually rehabbed it in 1993 so it’s in pretty good shape,” Turner said.”But the section that’s 8 inches doesn’t have the capacity.”
Turner said the city will design the work and hopefully use this project as a stepping stone to help upgrade lines downstream of this section. He said they will add capacity down Spring Street and rerouting lines that go under buildings in the area.
Turner said the developer’s share of work is set to cost some $50,000. He said if the city council approves it at its meeting Thursday night, the next step will be to take the designs from engineers and put the project out to bid.
“And we hope to be able to bid this out sometime in the spring,” Turner said.
