Cookeville Sinkhole Cleanup Open To Volunteers

The annual Trog Sinkhole Cleanup is this Saturday to gather up all the debris and trash.

Cookeville Public Works Storm Water Manager Blake Mayo said the North Willow Avenue sinkhole catches a lot of city storm water, including most of Tennessee Tech. Mayo said that unfortunately there will be more to collect than just trash from the storm drainage system.

“There’s been cases where some folks have actually gone and physically dumped things out of the backs of trucks and things like that,” Mayo said. “Thinking it’s like a garbage

Mayo said anyone can volunteer and meet up at 1709 North Willow Avenue from 7:00 AM until 11:00 AM.

He said this is a rough area to navigate and volunteers need to where sturdy shoes and long pants. Mayo said that anything too large for a garbage back will be hauled out and removed by a city brush truck.
