The Cookeville Rescue Mission is prepared for anyone needing a warm place to stay.
Kitchen and House Manager Paul Root said some have already taken advantage with some 40 people already housed.
“Any time the weather becomes 40 degrees or below or incumbent weather comes in, rain, fog, heavy wind, snow, what we do is we open up our mission to allow anyone and everyone,” Root said.
Root said staff members have been working all day making sure beds are prepared and meals are ready. Root said the mission also provides a change of clothes.
“We make sure our kitchen is well stocked,” Root said. “Meals are prepared as much as we can in advance. Extra blankets. Extra cots. Everything that we have in our easy storage is for easy grab.”
Root said this is the third or fourth year since the mission has practiced the, “Code Blue Status.” Root said the initiative keeps the doors open in times of bad weather. Root said people will be accepted all night at 1331 South Jefferson Avenue.
