Cookeville Regional Hosting Series Of Health Screenings

Cookeville Regional Medical Center hosting a series of health screenings in the Education Center this week.

Coordinator Wanda Richardson said that the screenings offered will cover anything from blood tests to thyroid tests. She said that they want to do their best to ensure everyone has the opportunity to get screenings that wants them.

“We see so many people that don’t have any insurance or they have really high deductibles,” Richardson said. “And then a lot of people just like to do their lab results in-between time of their doctor’s visits just to kind of keep a check on how they’re doing. We see a lot of people and this has been no exception. ”

Richardson said that through these screenings, they’ve caught cancer, diagnosed diabetes, and been able to get people treatment they wouldn’t have otherwise.

“The healthy ones that think there’s nothing going on are usually the ones where we’re finding something wrong,” Richardson said. “You may feel healthy and you do everything you can, but there’s history. You may have a family history of something that you’re going to get whether you’re trying your best or not, so you want to stay on top of those things. And everybody needs to get a checkup at least once a year, and everybody needs a primary care doctor.”

Richardson said that because the spots filled up so quickly for the first three days, they added a fourth day of screenings on the 29th. She said that those interested in screenings between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. Tuesday through Friday can register online on the hospital’s website.
