Cookeville RAM Clinic Looking For Volunteers

Remote Area Medical looking for volunteers to help make a difference at the Cookeville Medical Clinic scheduled for March.

Volunteer Coordinator Keela Paulsen said volunteers can participate in patient registration, parking, food services, and providing interpreter support. Paulsen said volunteers will have the opportunity to take a tour of the facilities. Paulsen said volunteering is good practice for communication skills and patient interaction.

“All of our roles that we give our volunteers are active roles with patients,” Paulsen said. “So they’re all gonna have some type of patient interaction, unless they are working in like the food service or something like that, then they’re gonna have that interaction with the providers.”

Paulsen said Remote Area Medical provides essential healthcare services including dental, vision, and prescription care. Paulsen said the clinic features a dedicated women’s health department as well. Paulsen said all services are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

“We’ll have all of the service area set up for folks,” Paulsen said. “It is first come first serve, we don’t require an ID or anything like that. So as folks arrive and when the doors open at 6am, they’ll come in, they’ll register.”

Paulsen said the clinics have different departments set up depending on what is needed. Paulsen said they often see patients with tooth or mouth pain.

“Talking specifically about Cookeville, it really just depends on what kind of doctors are there, what our patients are looking for,” Paulsen said. “Dental and vision are always, they go hand and hand, we see a lot of folks that can’t see to drive.”

The clinic takes place March 21.
