Cookeville Public Works Completes Final Walk Through For Spring St. Sidewalk Phase I

Cookeville Public Works saw a successful final walk-through for Phase I of Spring Street’s sidewalk project with the state.

Public Works Director Blake Mayo said that this process occurs with every similar project. He said the department, T-DOT, and the project’s construction inspector walk the length of the job to make sure the work is completed to standard.

“The main thing was the push button wasn’t functional on Old Kentucky Road we need to get that addressed,” Mayo said. “There’s just a handful of catch basins that need to be cleaned up so not a lot of work left and we should be able to knock that out pretty quickly.”

Mayo said the remaining tasks are routine for these kinds of construction projects. He said the next steps to get this phase completed will be to get the final line items addressed as well as finalize the paperwork.

Mayo said in addition to the official completion of Phase I, a walk-through with T-DOT can lend a hand with the next phases of the sidewalk project. He said they are able to go over lessons learned and how to improve.

“And in fact, we’re in the process of looking at the next phases and finding proper term points to make sure we stay within the T-DOT grant number,” Mayo said.
