The Cookeville Police Department will partner with the Neighbors by Ring app to provide the community with real-time crime and safety information.
Captain Bobby Anderson said the app facilitates better communication between law enforcement and community members.
“Well when it comes to the Cookeville Police Department, of course, we are excited to use any tool that is going to help us fight crime,” Anderson said. “And the Neighbors app in the Ring network essentially an electronic neighborhood watch. Which allows us to reach a bigger better audience when it comes to solving crime.”
According to a press release, the app can help citizens catch package thieves, stopping burglaries and keep the community safe.
“We can push videos out, we can push crime alerts, wanted photos and the neighbors in the community can do the same thing,” Anderson said. “They can also post their videos, their crime alerts.”
The Cookeville Police Department is the first agency in Tennessee to use the app.
“It remains to be seen, but we believe it will be a good tool to use,” Anderson said. “And we hope that other agencies follow suit.”
The Neighbors network already claims millions of users nationwide. Cookeville residents can download the free app to monitor neighborhood activity and receive safety alerts from the Cookeville Police Department.
