Cookeville Police Investigate Franklin Avenue Shooting

Cookeville Police continue the investigation into a shooting Wednesday morning along North Franklin Avenue.

Officers responded to a 911-call just after 7:00am. 22-year-old Jacob Govea told officers he had been approached by a man outside his home in the 700 block of North Franklin Avenue. Govea said the man fired six rounds at him from a handgun, striking him twice in the upper torso.

The alleged gunman remains at-large. Police are searching for a white male, five feet eight inches tall. He was last seen wearing black pants, an orange sweatshirt,
blue gloves, a toboggan, and sunglasses.

Govea was transported to Cookeville Regional Medical Center and later transferred to Vanderbilt Medical Center. His condition is not known.

Police had several roads blocked looking for the shooter Wednesday morning. The Putnam County Sheriffs Department joined Cookeville Police in the search.
