Cookeville Police Dept. to Feature Fallen Officers Memorial

The new Cookeville Police Department will feature a fallen officer memorial near the front entrance.

Cookeville Police Chief Randy Evans said Putnam County artist Cindy Billingsley created the sculpture design which will be mounted on the granite wall.

“She actually did a sculpture for Brentwood Police Department, so that’s how we came to know her,” Evans said. “We met with her, and she had some ideas that she brought back to us her vision of what this would look like, and we went from there.”

Evans said the lead time will allow Billingsley time to sculpt the piece and get it bronzed. Work continues on the new police department off Neal Street.

“If you look around most new police departments, even our sheriff’s department has a memorial beside their building as well,” Evans said. “Even though we’re very, very fortunate that we haven’t had an officer lost in the line of duty, this wall would not only memorialize them if we did, but would also memorialize any officer lost in the line of duty,” said Evans.

Cookeville City Council will vote to approve the $15,900 budgeted sculpture during its Thursday meeting.
