Cookeville PD Requesting New Equipment Thursday

The Cookeville Police Department will seek approval from the city council Thursday to purchase new equipment.

Police Chief Randy Evans said Monday the purchases will include laptop computers, docking stations, and new radars.

“First of all, this is all grant money,” Evans said. “You all [city council] approved THSO grants back in October so we are purchasing these on that grant.”

The 16 computers, docking stations, and 7 radar units will cost $24,667.

The Cookeville Police Department received more than $50,000 in grant funding in October. A portion of those grand funds will be used to purchase the new equipment.

The Cookeville Fire Department will also be requesting approval to purchase 9 sets of turnout gear through the HGACBuy Cooperative Purchasing Program.

“Basically, we are just replacing some older sets of turnout gear,” Captain Daniel Snyder said. “Every year we budget for gear and this is just part of that order.”

The fire department has previously used the HGAC program to purchase turnout gear, a new truck, and extrication equipment.

The Cookeville City Council will meet Thursday at 5:30 p.m. inside city hall.
