Cookeville Man Faces False Imprisonment Charge

A Cookeville man faces multiple charges after trying to take his girlfriend captive Monday.

Authorities charged 44-year-old Kevin Gregory Richardson with false imprisonment, domestic assault, and public intoxication.

Deputies made contact with Richardson in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Department. Arrest warrants indicate that Richardson could not logically explain what happened to his girlfriend while attempting to file a report.

Richardson had glossy red eyes, the odor of an intoxicating beverage about his breath, and seemed incoherent.  Richardson admitted to having one “sip of alcohol.”

Deputies went to speak with Richardson’s girlfriend. She explained that she got into Richardson’s vehicle on Stamp Shady Grove Rd. Upon Richardson telling the woman he intended to take her to Carthage, she told Richardson she did not want to go.

At a stop on Brotherton Mtn Rd, the victim left the vehicle. According to arrest warrants, Richardson fought the woman and commanded her back into the vehicle.

Richardson restrained the victim in the passenger seat.

While on Ditty Rd, the woman jumped out of the moving vehicle and ran to the safety of a residence.

Officials booked Richardson into the Putnam County Jail on a $3,248 bond. Richardson has since posted bail.

Putnam and White County authorities previously charged Richardson for domestic assault on three separate occasions.
