Cookeville Man Charged With Aggravated Assault Monday

A Cookeville man faces charges for allegedly threatening to kill a woman on Monday.

Cookeville Police charged Jason E. Phillips with aggravated assault. He has not yet posted his $5,000 bond.

Officers came in contact with the 31-year-old Phillips after responding to E. 17th Street for a domestic incident. An arrest report said the officer entered the home after hearing a verbal argument inside.

The report said Phillips appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and would not stop cursing and yelling in front of the victim and three children. The officer also observed a knot on the side of the victim’s head and redness to the side of her face.

According to the warrant, a witness told the officer that Phillips struck the victim multiple times before pinning her against the wall and placing a hand on her throat. Phillips allegedly said he would kill the victim while holding a knife in front of her.

Phillips has a court date scheduled for October 7.
