Cookeville Man Arrested After Attempting To Run Over Putnam Deputy

A Cookeville man faces 15 charges after a manhunt Tuesday that started with the suspect allegedly attempting to run over a Putnam County Deputy.

Sergeant Josh Reams arrived at 2155 Wildwood Road to serve an outstanding warrant on 21-year-old Mason Tyler Stout. Stout attempted to run over Deputy Keith Maynard with his vehicle and later drove head on to another deputies vehicle.

Stout exited the vehicle and an on-foot pursuit began. During that time, Stout allegedly stole a side-by-side ATV from a local resident, attempted to drive away in it only to get it stuck in a ditch and continue his attempted escape on foot.

After a couple of hours of searching, K-9 units located Stout in a sinkhole nearby. Stout was arrested, and bond was set at $1,021,000. Stout was charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder, theft and other drug charges.
