Cookeville Fire Required County Mutual Aid For Monday Night Event

A fire on Cookeville’s Skyline Drive resulted in the total loss of a residential structure.

Cookeville Fire Department Battalion Chief Daniel Snyder said all stations responded to the scene around 11 p.m. Monday night. He said the narrowness of Skyline Drive and the surrounding landscape made it difficult for firefighters to get to the house.

“We had to call the county in for mutual aid just due to the location, and the lack of the water supply, and just needing the help,” Snyder said. “Because once we got on the scene and it rapidly evolved into a fully-involved structure, they needed a lot of hands and a lot of hoses on the ground.”

Snyder said the official cause of the fire is still under investigation. He said current speculations are that the fire was electrical in nature.

Snyder said firefighters were on the scene for about four hours. He said Cookeville Police Department arrived first on the scene and was able to help the home’s three occupants escape safely.

“We cleared the scene probably a little after 3 a.m. and as we were clearing we were called out for another fire north of town,” Snyder said. “Thankfully, when the crews arrived they found out it was just burnt food, which was a big relief to a bunch of tired firefighters.”
