Cookeville firefighters have contained the Wednesday morning fire to the Crawdaddy’s building downtown.
Fire Chief Daryl Blair said just after 6:00am that crews have stopped the extension of the fire to surrounding businesses. Department personnel are working on several hot spots in the structure.
Blair said the building suffered extensive smoke, water and fire damage. No injuries in the fire.
The area along West Broad Street and Cedar Avenue will be blocked for sometime, according to Blair. West Broad Street from Walnut to Oak Street will be closed until further notice. Cedar Avenue from West Broad to 1st Street is also closed Wednesday morning.
Blair said crews arrived around 3:30 Wednesday morning and found the fire spreading quickly. Blair said the age of the building and the proximity to other structures makes containment a concern. Blair said the department has recalled all crews to help.
The building is located at 53 West Broad Street, at the corner of South Cedar.
This is the second fire in that downtown block in the last year. This spring, the building across the street from Crawdaddy’s suffered damage.
