Cookeville is already getting money back from FEMA to help offset the costs of the March 3rd Tornado.
Cookeville City Manager James Mills said the news that federal money already coming in was a surprise and called it a year ahead of schedule. Mills said this is going to have a large effect on the city’s after accumulating an over $1.3 million dollar bill.
“It’s gonna make a big difference to our budget to be able to do that,” Mills said. “It’s gonna allow us to do a lot of things we would have had to wait on, so yeah we’re very pleased that they’re going to have that quick of a turn around.”
Mills said FEMA’s move to make more of the process electronic and experience from the 2015 ice storm helped get the process moving forward. Expenses included contracted services for debris removal, overtime for police, fire department personnel and Public Works staffers.
