Cookeville Extends Dirt-Moving Agreement

Cookeville City Council approved an amendment to an indemnity agreement Thursday night to allow for dirt to be moved in the Highlands Business Park.

Council approved the agreement with the Hollingsworth Group last fall to transport dirt from the Ficosa site to the lot owned by Hollingsworth. Community Development Director Jon Ward said the desire was to keep heavy trucks off Highlands Park Blvd. TDEC asked for an amendment to the agreement for a preferred stream crossing, thus, the amendment to the original agreement.

The change also extends the agreement 120 days due to TDEC delays.

Cookeville and Putnam County jointly own the property. County Commissioners must still approve the amendment.

In other business, council approved the first step of a plan to update processes and software inside the city. Council approved the purchase of three trucks for the Energy Department, for immediate delivery. The trucks replace units set to be retired, according to Department Director Carl Haney.

Council set a public hearing for the addition of private and parochial schools in the Commercial Industrial District. The hearing will be held April 4. Council approved the purchase of some $91,000 in LED lights and $150,000 in steel poles for the Energy Department.
