Cookeville Christmas Tree Disposal Options

Cookeville Residents have two options for getting rid of their Christmas tree, no matter how long they wait to put away holiday decorations.

Public Works Director Greg Brown said residents can always take their tree to the West Jackson Street brush site or simply leave it by the street for for Cookeville’s brush trucks. However, Brown said there are still mistakes people make, making his departments job more difficult.

“Well, don’t leave your ornaments on the tree, that’s one thing that doesn’t help any,” Brown said. “We do not take artificial trees, but if you just put them on the side of the street just make sure it’s not obstructing traffic.”

Brown said getting rid of artificial trees can be done through regular garbage pick up. He said residents can also check with their transfer station.

“That would be through, probably just their regular garbage pick up,” Brown said. “Possibly through the transfer station, I’m not sure if they take that down there or not, but we do not pick up artificial trees on the side of the road.”

Brown said the bulk of Christmas trees start getting picked up about a week after Christmas.

“It just varies, they usually start right after Christmas,” Brown said. “Usually, the next week or two after Christmas, that’s when we get the vast majority of them.”

This is for Christmas tree disposal in Cookeville. Residents should check with their local solid waste and brush services for proper disposal.
