Cookeville City Council approved the 2020-2021 budget on second reading Thursday night.
The budget totals $29.656 million in expenses. That’s an increase of roughly $500,000 from the current fiscal year. Revenues are budgeted at $29.119 million.
The property tax rate remains at $0.99. That includes $0.72 going to the general fund, $0.15 to the transportation infrastructure fund, $0.04 each to the debt service fund and the solid waster fund, $0.03 to the economic development fund, and $0.01 to quality of life fund.
The Council also approved the agreement to purchase roughly 490 customers within the Double Springs Utility District. Water And Sewer Director Ronnie Kelly said Double Springs will provide the city with customer information within two months of the agreement. He said customers moving to the City of Cookeville will see a decrease in the water bill.
Also at Thursday night’s meeting, the council honored retiring Human Resources Director Gail Fowler and City Clerk Cathy McClain. Fowler came to the city in 1994 and has served seven city councils. McClain has served Cookeville for some 40 years.
