Cookeville Bids Waterline Project On Joff Drive And Victory View Drive

Cookeville City Council approved a waterline project on Joff Drive and Victory View Drive.

Water Quality Department Director Designee Barry Turner said that the project will involve installing some 2,600 feet of water line to replace the old lines. He said that both lines are not located along the road and go under a field.

“The one up here on Joff Drive goes across county property and the old stock barn property so we’re going to come off of Jefferson and feed it the way it should have been done years ago,” Turner said. “And Victory View Drive, the same way it comes across a field and it broke under the creek and we only did a temporary repair.”

Turner said that the new lines would allow the current to be abandoned. Turner said that it’s not ideal to have waterlines that aren’t along the road and in fields or rural areas. He said that makes it easier for people to miss leaks for a long time.

The council approved a bid for this work at its Thursday night council meeting for some $256,692. Turner said this work would allow the portion under the Highway Department and the existing line at Veterans Drive to be abandoned.

“It may conflict with something that somebody is wanting to do with that property so it may hurt the price or something like that,” Turner said. “But in the big scheme of things, it just cleans that property up and gets us a new line that doesn’t go across country (areas) and through other property.”
