The Putnam County Parks and Recreation Department opened the Cookeville and Monterey community pools.
Program Coordinator Chloe Beasley said there will be no COVID restrictions unlike the past two summers.
“We’re super excited to offer that service to the public again this year,” Beasley said. “We really missed interacting with the public the last years when we were closed to the public or just open for parties.”
Beasley said the facilities will be open Tuesday through Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Beasley said swim parties of up to 100 people can be scheduled.
Last year, the pools only allowed scheduled parties.
“This is kind of a year for us to restructure our approach on how to cater the different needs of the people coming in and out of our facilities,” Beasley said. “This is a great year to gauge the amount of interaction with the public.”
Beasley said the process to open the pools begins in the fall. Beasley said the department spends the off season cleaning the facilities and ensuring health codes are followed.
Parks and Recreation Director John Ross Albertson said chemical costs for the pools did increase for the next fiscal year. Albertson said last year, a chlorine shortage happened that made prices jump.
