Controlled Burn Starting Monday At Obed River Park

Cumberland County Parks and Recreation partnering up with TWRA and Cumberland County Fire Department for its scheduled controlled burn at Obed River Park.

The burn starts at 9 a.m. Monday. Parks and Recreation Director Donnie Moody said the burns occur semi-regularly as a way to better preserve the savannah area in the park.

“We’ve got fire breaks all the way around where the burn is going to happen,” Moody said. “The main reason we let people know is because it’s going to create a lot of smoke and we don’t want people to panic and think there is an uncontrolled fire going on somewhere ”

Moody said they advise those in the area to make sure windows and doors are shut to avoid getting smoke in their homes.
