A collection of six plays focusing on human connection during the pandemic is coming to CPAC’s Backstage Series.
The show is titled Alone, Together and directed by Matthew Wilson. Wilson said connecting during the digital age and COVID creates topics everyone can relate to.
“I think that’s been a very universal thing is we need that connection with other people as human beings,” Wilson said. “We are finding ways to do those things that we usually do, in a safe manner. Which is for theater as well, this way we can do this as safely as possible.”
Wilson said he tried to find a show that highlighted the humor that can be found during this time. He said finding those moments to laugh can be comforting while feeling pandemic struggles.
“Pandemic Therapy is about a couple who have just gotten married, been married for about a year and then the pandemic hits,” Wilson said. “They’re doing therapy online and the only way they are getting through their marriage is finding some things that are funny. That’s how the therapist is kind of going with it and it may be a little dark but sometimes that’s the way you get through things.”
The pandemic has not only changed the ways people interact in their personal life, but its changed interacting on the stage. Wilson said that is why he selected actors he knew for this unorthodox show.
“I chose this so we could do it all remotely and do that,” Wilson said. “So, I chose these shows that we’re doing because they all kind of deal with the pandemic with either some dark humor or some self reflection in figuring out who you are now that all this is going on.”
This show will be broadcast on Vimeo on March 5 and 6. Tickets are $10 and come with a link and password to access the show.
Wilson said it can be viewed at any time starting at 7:30 PM until midnight on March 6.
