Clay School System Offering Medical Services To All Students

All Clay County Schools will offer medical services for students this year, helping students and busy parents.

Health Coordinator Rob Edwards said that physicals and eye exams will be provided through Well Child. Edwards said parents do not have to miss work, arrange transportation or make appointments to check their child’s health.

“There are children within each building that teacher’s recognize and nurses recognize that need medical attention or need an eye exam,” Edwards said. “Sometimes it is difficult to communicate that with parents and convince them to make that doctor visit.”

Edwards said Well Child services will come at no cost to parents, with services being billed to the child’s insurance. He said that signup packets will go out during the second week of school but signing up can be done online at wellchild.com

Edwards said up to date health checkups can be crucial to a child’s performance in the classroom.

“If a child has trouble seeing the front of the room or reading because it’s blurred it makes learning a lot more difficult than for a child with good vision,” Edwards said. “We’re happy to have Well Child coming to us.”

Edwards said he had heard of other school systems that used Well Child and began the steps to get it implemented in Clay County Schools. He said if parents want to begin the process now, they can also call (866) 403-5858 which is a toll free number.
