Local Highway Departments are making preparations for this weekend’s winter weather.
Clay Highway Superintendent Jason Browning said that the forecasted rain Saturday night could pose some issues. He said that the state will salt roads prior to Sunday’s snow, but the rain could wash it all away.
“We just treat it as it comes,” Browning said. “Rain will wash the salt off if you put it down before. We tried that before and it didn’t work too well.”
Browning said that once the weather changes over from rain to snow, they plan on salting hills and harsh curves to try and make them safer.
Browning said that his crews will be on standby and ready to address road issues as they occur. He said all of his department’s trucks are chained up and ready to go.
“If you don’t have to be out, you don’t need to be out unless it’s an emergency,” Browning said. “And just be patient with these guys that are out there. They’re pretty much risking their lives to try to clear some of these roads off and you just have to be patient with us.”
