Clay County Grant Creating Two Ready Sites To Recruit Industries

Clay County will create two pad-ready sites and an access road off Mitchell Street in Celina with new state grant money.

County Mayor Dale Reagan said this is the bait the county needs to land large scale development. Reagan said there is a dire need for ready sites in the county if it wants to see industrial growth.

“Companies that are looking to expand or relocate, they want to see something that is ready,” Reagan said. “Unfortunately we don’t have a lot of area here that has buildings and stuff that is accessible for us to do that.”

The Mitchell Street Industrial Park is roughly 50 acres with about 20 acres being usable for construction. It is a joint effort of Celina and Clay County. The state awarded the industrial board $500,000 last week.

Reagan said that having an area ready for construction gives companies a better understanding of how their building specifications can fit into the area. Reagan said that

“All the infrastructure is already accessible to this particular piece of property,” Reagan said. “That makes it very beneficial for us.”

Reagan said there will be a five percent match on the grant by the county. He said the County’s Industrial Development Board has been working towards this goal for more than five years.
