Clay Commissioners Vote To Apply For Two Grants To Library Upgrades

Clay County will apply for two grants worth over $1 million to help with renovations to the Clay County Library.

“Hopefully we can get to do some upgrades and stuff and maybe even make an addition to the library if we’re blessed enough to obtain this grant and the other ones coming up,” Clay County Mayor Dale Reagan said.

Reagan told commissioners Monday night that $100,000 in grant money comes from the Tennessee State Library and Archives Construction Grant. A second grant would provide up to $1 million from the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development through its Connected Community Facilities Program.

Commissioner Jennifer Ritter said the library has needed the updates for some time and hopes the grants will allow not only updates, but expansion for the library.

The County Commission also passed a motion to reduce the speed limit on Terrapin Ridge Road to 15 miles an hour. Reagan said that people moving to the area have said that the roads are very narrow and winding. Reagan also said that he reached out to Clay County Highway Superintendent Jason Browning who offered his full support of the decision.
