City of Spencer will see a change in leadership with new Mayor Alisa Farmer.
According to unofficial results from the Van Buren County Elections Office, Farmer defeated Incumbent Mickey Robinson 201 votes to 181 votes. Candidate Duane Hodges came in third with 166 votes. Farmer said that as Mayor-Elect, the main issue on the forefront of her mind will be the quality of the city’s water.
“Because of the borderline health concerns and things that it might cause to our citizens not only for the City of Spencer but for the majority of Van Buren County,” Farmer said. “That is top priority.”
Farmer said another issue she hopes to address is the city’s strict building codes. She said some may say that she is against the codes, but she says that is not the case.
“I think the codes are a good guideline, but I do think they need to be revisited and to see if what we have right now is hindering the growth of our city as far as small businesses, and construction and things like that,” Farmer said. “I really do want to look into that, do some research and figure out if we are more of a hindrance than a help to our citizens.”
Farmer said she is ready to hit the ground running and bring her background in economic and community development to lift up the City of Spencer.
