City Of Crossville Will Consider Inflation, Recreation Center In New Budget

City of Crossville’s budget projected to have a general fund budget of about $25 million for the coming fiscal year.

City Manager Greg Wood said a large portion of the budget will be put towards large capital projects, such as the proposed rec facility. He said there are also concerns surrounding the inflation, which the council will discuss at its upcoming budget meeting.

“Of course, this is a new mayor that I’m working with and his budget philosophy will be a little different than the previous mayor I worked with and we’ve also got new council members,” Wood said. “It’s going to be a little different situation, but this is my 7th budget with the city but I’ve pretty well got the process down pretty well.”

Wood said other budget focus points will include road improvements and hangar upgrades. He said right now, there is an estimated $1.3 million deficit in the revenue.

However, Wood said that deficit could be made up through potential land sales. He said because a majority of the budget is for capital projects, they likely will not spend all of the money this fiscal year.

“I think we’re pretty well set and we can defend all the projects in there,” Wood said. “With COVID we kicked some of the projects down the road a little bit and we underestimated our revenue that came in so that’s why we have a little healthier fund balance so we’re going to go ahead and get caught up on projects that we had put off.”
