Change Order Approval Marks End Of 10th Street Widening Phase I

City of Cookeville’s approval for a change order for the widening of East 10th Street marks the end of the first phase.

The phase extended from Wilson Avenue to Chocolate Drive. Public Works Director Blake Mayo said the change order increases the project cost by some $56,000, for a total price of $1.23 million.

“Some additional concrete work over the concrete islands that were installed had to lengthen the riprap ditch on the north side of the project,” Mayo said. “But a vast majority was some additional asphalt and milling to ensure we had a smooth roadway where we tied into the existing asphalt that we were trying to keep.”

Mayo said progress on the next phase of the 10th project is already underway, which will include widening 10th Street from Old Kentucky Road to Fisk Road. He said the designs are already complete for that phase, and will hopefully be out to bid this summer.

Eventually, there will be a third phase that goes from Fisk Road to North Washington Avenue.
