Central View Subcommittee Could Come To An End This Week

The future of the Central View Community Subcommittee will be decided by the White County Board of Education this week.

Subcommittee Chair Bob Young said a board vote makes the final call, but a third subcommittee meeting is unlikely to happen.

“I think we got good feedback from the community as far as some ideas and interest,” Young said. “The need to have another meeting it would probably be low.”

Young said he will give board members a summary of the December meeting. Future ideas include another school, a resident operated community center, recreation options, leasing and demolition.

“The ideas that came from that will be presented to the full board and getting on the agenda,” Young said. “There will probably be some discussion on that to understand the feedback that we got from the committee and members of the community.”

The subcommittee has met two times gauging community ideas for the vacant elementary school. Central View was closed in 2018 in a 4-2 vote by the Board of Education at the time.

Many from the community want another school opened at the location, but student numbers and funding have been a concern for some on the school board.

White County Board of Education meets Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
