Centertown Elementary inviting former students to come back and celebrate 100 years of community education this Saturday.
Warren County Schools Communications Coordinator Sarah Cantrell said those who attend the celebration will likely take a walk down memory lane. Cantrell said many things have come and gone in McMinnville but Centertown has marked the time.
“It was once a high school and Centertown actually graduated its last high school class in 1969,” Cantrell said. “So they will have different rooms set up depending by your decade where you can meet with former classmates. Share pictures, memorabilia, yearbooks, and anything like that.”
Cantrell said those who graduated from the high school are welcome. The event takes place from 10am-2pm Saturday. She said part of the celebration will consist of current students performing a dance and singing program for the previous students.
“You just kind of go through how the world has changed and it is really fascinating to put it into perspective that Centertown Elementary has been around for the last 100 years with all the major events that we think about.”
Cantrell said the school will be fundraising and people can donate to have a tree planted on the school campus either in honor of or in memory of a family member who attended Centertown. Cantrell said they will also be selling Retro Warrior T-shirts.
“All of that supports incentives at Centertown Elementary School,” Cantrell said. “So the things they do to celebrate the students or special initiatives, those donations will all go to the school.”
Cantrell said the celebration will also display old cars and have food trucks. Cantrell said she is looking forward to a big turnout.
