Farms and businesses that purchase water through Celina will soon be able to utilize leak insurance.
The Board of Aldermen approved coverage up to $1,000. Mayor Luke Collins said home owners already had the option, so the city wanted to expand the coverage.
“Commercial leaks happen and leaks happen on the farm,” Collins said. “With this insurance, it will help mitigate their loses instead of having a $2,000 water bill with that insurance it would be taken care of.”
Collins said water customers will have the option to opt out of the service. Collins said the coverage goes into effect this December.
“It’s scary if something happens and that water is running 24/7 especially if it’s a big line,” Collins said. “It’s a step in the right direction. I’m glad that we have done it.”
Aldermen Justin Rich and Winton Dillion both said farmers have indicated to them that the coverage is wanted.
