Celina K-8 Forming Parent Teacher Group

The Clay County Board of Education has approved a Parent Teacher Organization for the Celina K-8 school.

Celina K-8 PTO President Alecia Burns said she and other parents formed the PTO as they saw the success it had brought to the Hermitage Springs School District. Burns said the PTO will help the school any way they can.

“Our goal is to bring fun crafts and activities to the children while raising money to help whether the teachers need help with pencils or just a dinner for the teachers, or kids need help with school trip money,” Burns said.

Burns said the PTO has already had a few meetings and has elected positions for the organization. Burns said it is important to support the school by raising funds as it will make a big difference for some of the students and their families.

“I think it’s one of the biggest things that they need just because the kids, I mean they want them to go on trips and be a part of stuff and I know that is a burden for some families,” Burns said. “We just want to make sure we can help that burden with those children and just raise funds for more fun activities to do for sure.”

Burns said the organization will connect parents and teachers to help understand the overall needs of the school.

“We want just parents and teachers to be able to work together and have a good relationship and just let the teachers know that we are there to help them as well because we know that they work so hard and take a burden off of their shoulders.

Burns said the PTO discussed upcoming events in the first open meeting the organization had on Tuesday. Burns said the PTO is partnering with Dale Hollow Pizza to have a Pizza for PTO night. Burns said ten percent of the profit will go towards the starting fund balance for the PTO. Burns said the PTO is organizing events like Breakfast with Santa and the Grinch and a literacy night.
