The Clay County Board of Aldermen has signed the papers to accept a land donation to create a small downtown park.
Mayor Luke Collins said the only item that remains is a signature from the Brown family.
“Now, we do not have it back from Mel Brown yet,” Collins said. “It’s been mailed to him. Every indication is he is going to sign it and mail it back. It may be in the mail right now.”
Collins said Brown has verbally agreed to the design and name of the park. Collins said the proposed, “Brown Family Park,” would have picnic tables and a ADA compliant bathroom.
Collins said the only public bathroom downtown is in the courthouse, which was built in 1874. Collins said the goal is to get up-to-date and have facilities so all residents can come to events in Celina.
