Caney Fork Electric Cooperative warning customers of an ongoing phone scam in its districts.
Director of Member Services John Chisam said members are getting calls seeking debit card information and offering refunds on over payed bills.
“If that particular caller can not give them their account information, which we would have readily available in front of us as far as their electric account, then those are the types of questions they should ask the caller,” Chisam said.
Chisam said if the caller can not provide the account information, then it is very likely a scam. Chisam said members should also know that Caney Fork Electric will never request payment information over the phone.
Chisam said this phone scam is a new twist to previous ones the power company has experienced. Chisam said usually, callers demand an up front payment threatening to cut your power.
